This happy family have asked me to photograph a very special occasion later this summer.

I went to visit them in their home to discuss the details and make some arrangements.

We also used the visit as an opportunity to do a mini family portrait session, so much fun!

Baby Harry & Family - 2 weeks on.

Yes I got to go back and visit the gorgeous baby Harry and his lovely family - you can see my first visit here.

Now that the family have had a little bit of time to adjust and big sister has settled into her new role very well, I popped back to get some more family shots.

It was so nice to see them again and I felt really special to be invited back into their home.

Week 6.

Baby Harry & Family.

Here is 6 day old baby Harry, the youngest baby (apart from my own) that I have photographed. He was just a yummy ball of wrinkly newborn goodness and I loved every minute of being with him. His beautiful Mum was there giving him tender cuddles, his Dad was wonderful, taking care of the undressing and dressing of Harry. His beautiful big sister was adjusting to the understandably big change in the family dynamics and was not too keen on the idea of being photographed especially with anyone else in the shot. After playing and some peppa pig impressions we managed to get her dressed and ready for a few snaps. I was especially pleased that we managed to get one shot of all four of them together and laughing.

It was a wonderful morning and when big sister and baby brother have become a bit more acquainted, I have been invited back to take more family photo’s.

Sneak peek.

I couldn’t help sharing a little sneak peek of a photo shoot I did yesterday. At only 6 days old, this gorgeous little boy is the youngest baby (apart from my own) that I have photographed and with his beautiful big sister it was an absolute pleasure.

I shot about 30% on film and the rest in digital which worked really well and will be the combination I shall be using from now on. Once I have finished processing, I will create a little blog post to share the rest here.

Week 4.

My friends beautiful daughter; she love's hello kitty, everything pink, reading and playing dress up.
But she will always challenge the boys (and win) to racing on their scooters, climbing to the very top of the climbing frame and splashing the most in the paddling pool.

It is always nice to receive mail and even nicer when it is something this beautiful.

I have admired Lorena's beautiful film photographs for a while now, so of course when she ran a competition on her flickr site to win some wonderful prints, I entered. A week later Lorena emailed me to say she had picked my comment out as the winner, it was very exciting as I really don’t think I have won anything, ever!

The prints are all stunning and I currently have them pinned up above my little desk in a corner of our sitting room. But this print of the roses is just so pretty it now stands on my dressing table.

The New Year needs a new project.

I was thinking of what I would like to do this year, maybe a 365 project, maybe a 52 weeks of black & white, maybe a food photo project.....

Week 1.

Then when printing some photo's for friends I saw this photo and started thinking how much I love photographing people that I love, people that mean something to me. So this year I am going to do my own little project - 52 weeks of portraits.

A portrait each week of someone I love; a family member, a friend, a friends child, maybe even new friends and people that make an impression on me in 2012. They will be snap shot style portraits taken using film, digital and even a couple of polaroids. I will share this on my blog every Friday.

(Yep I know I have posted this photo before but she was my inspiration so it seemed only right that I start the project with this special little lady.)

A few days ago I spent the morning photographing my lovely friend Zoe and her beautiful daughter; who has just lost her two front teeth so has the cutest smile.

Zoe is a talented photographer (her new website is under construction) and so is very rarely in family photo’s. It was a big compliment to be asked to do a mini session and a great way to start the New Year.

My neighbour Lucy knocked on my door last week with a project to talk to me about. She required some black and white headshots for a dance company she has just begun working for. Lucy has had her dancing career on hold for the last few years to bring up two gorgeous children so now needed to update her portfolio.

Although black and white was the order of the morning, I couldnt resist this one. The tree's where such a beautiful colour and Lucy has the bluest eyes.

Ooops November is almost over and I have only just got round to processing a roll of film I shot at Halloween!

We had a ‘spooky tea’ with some friends at our house before heading out trick or treating.

My boys decided upon glow in the dark skeleton pyjamas, bat deely boppers and sunglasses as their costumes this year!

I decided to capture the evening using Ilford XP2 super 400.

We are really lucky to have such a beautiful walk to school.

The path is currently covered with yellow leaves.

As the wind blew this morning, leaves fell down on us which made the boys laugh with delight.

Brighton.

When my sweet mother-in-law offered to have our boys for the day; we jumped at the chance at having a “date day” for a change. The weather was beautiful so we decided to drive to Brighton. We were able to walk along the beach hand in hand, have a really long lunch with drinks and stop for coffee whenever we wanted. It was perfect!

It was also great to have the chance to photograph life that doesn’t involve the children, be able to stop to take everything in and observe my surroundings.

After our day together though it was wonderful to return to the little ones and hear all about their day and adventures.

As you can probably tell from my blog, I love going to the beach. I love to escape and feel the sea air, listen to the waves and let my boys run around free.

We decided to try somewhere new and had heard good things about West beach. It was beautiful as there is a nature reserve right behind the beach which gave me lots of great photo opportunities, and a little cafe that sells awesome fish & chips.

One day I will live by the sea, but until then as often as possible we will pack up the car and head to the beach at the weekends, with a camera or two.

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing my lovely friend and her gorgeous baby boy.

It was so beautiful watching her gently take care of her first child. I remember how precious those first few weeks are, getting to know your baby.

Here is a little peek at one of my new greetings card designs.

My boys and I went on a walk across the fields to forage in the hedgerows for things to make some autumn displays.We managed to fill a big basket with pretty and interesting twigs, leaves and berries, the white roses came from a lovely friend’s garden.

On an overcast Sunday we decided to head to the beach and the surrounding nature reserve for a long walk, well as long as you can with two little people.
Even though it was a bit chilly the boys still paddled in the shallow water that had been warmed by the little bit of sun we had that afternoon.

We have been spotting the first signs of Autumn, it's my favourite time of year.
This means lots of collections of autumnal things, we can't seem to leave the house without picking up a pretty leaf, conker or pine cone.
So I have started a nature table for the boys.

On a long walk we decided to see who could find the biggest leaf, this was the winner.

Just finished shooting a roll of black & white film, so thought I would share some.
I took a lot of portrait photographs of my boys which I love, but they are for me and I don't want to bore anyone with them.
However, these more random shots came out quite well.

I did notice that apart from portraits I also seem to have taken lots of photo's of my kids feet?

Pear season has begun!
We have gone a bit pear crazy in our house and I can’t stop buying them.
Last night I made a pear crumble with dark chocolate chips and hazelnuts, it was delicious.
To me pears are just the prettiest fruit.

These are a few of my lastest flower shots.
I always have fresh flowers in the house, even if it's a single rose from the garden or a big bouquet from my husband.
Recently I have discovered a couple of houses where the owners sell the flowers they have grown in their gardens. They have little stands set up out the front of their homes with 'honesty boxes' for donations. Getting flowers this way is one of my new favourite things and often they are the most beautiful flowers I have come across.
After seeing these it has made me think that next year I would like to try and grow more of my own flowers.

The weather forecast for the weekend was good so we decided to pack up the car and take the kids to the beach.
I think we all needed the fresh air and even though we were just there for the day, it felt like we had been away on a little holiday.

We took the boys on their first ever camping trip. The camp site was near Corfe Castle, just outside of Swanage, on a really pretty farm with a stunning view. We only went for a couple of nights and were really lucky with weather at the start and managed to have a day on the beach and a trip on the stream train before the rain set in.

Even with the early starts (our youngest woke up at 6am) and the rain we still had an awesome time and there will definately be another camping trip or two next year.

Having two small sons myself, I understood that we needed to make this morning fun and relaxed. We decide to take the family photos in their own back garden, not only because it is a beautiful space but also so the boys were able play in between shots.

We all had lots of fun, I remember singing many renditions of Postman Pat but I think the boys made me laugh the most with their awesome jokes and silly songs.

They were such a fun family.

They are the most beautiful brother and sister duo and were both brilliant models.

The photograph of the two of them looking at each other was decided upon and has been printed on to a massive canvas for their Daddy's Birthday.

Some lovely friends of ours held a summer garden party at the weekend. She has the most beautiful home and garden to match. It was such a wonderful afternoon, delicous food, great people, elderflower champange and the prettiest table setting.

I love photographing babies!! So this morning was just wonderful, photographing three week old Arthur, his beautiful sister and his very chilled out mummy. His big sister was very protective of him so getting them together was no problem at all.

I had a wonderful time photographing Sarah and her first child, George in their home. George has just learnt to crawl so we had lots of fun chasing him about, food and his highchair and we managed to get some great shoots.

What a delicious afternoon! I was asked by two lovely friends, Lisa and Lisa to take some pictures of them for their new website. The two laughing Lisa’s have started a cupcake company called The Travelling Teashop and their strawberry shortcake cupcake are a definate recommend!

The two of them are great friends and you can really see that in how relaxed they are together, giggling away in between shoots. I always have a great time when I am around them.

Hi.

My name is Emily and this is my blog.

I live in a small village in Surrey, England, with my two busy boys and my lovely husband. I love cups of earl grey tea, freshly washed sheets, stripy t-shirts, the sound of a blackbird singing, the odd glass of red wine and most of all my family.

I always have my camera with me, take photos everyday and quite often drive my boys mad with my incessant obsession. Photography has however definitely made me more observant of my surroundings, the changing seasons and light conditions, and certainly more appreciative of the beauty that is all around us and, importantly, of life’s imperfections.

This blog is a little place where I record all my adventures in photography, sessions, travels and days out, special occasions or just everyday stuff.

You will see that I love to shoot different types of film as well as digital; sometimes I like to use one of my wonderful vintage Polaroid cameras just for fun.
